Have you been thinking about your goals lately ?
I know I have!! – the end of the calendar year always comes with a lot of goal planning and thoughts about the future. But wait – are you making the same goals as last year? It is easy to get overwhelmed and frustrated when you look at all you want to do in life and feel like you are not getting anywhere.
[bctt tweet=”It is more often a persons mindset that can help or prevent them from the success they seek, not opportunity, resources, or connections. The way you think affects every choice you make , even the choice to succeed.” username=”marjanialadin”]
Do you ever feel any of these things?
I WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL BUT I FEEL STUCK
I KNOW I HAVE A TALENT/GIFT, I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY I AM NOT SUCCEEDING
I FEEL UNMOTIVED
I AM SCARED TO START
I WANT TO PURUSE MY DREAMS BUT OW IS NOT THE TIME, MAYBE LATER IN LIFE
I DON’T EVEN KNOW IF I CAN REALLY DO ANYTHING
I WILL START SOON, I AM STILL IN THE PLANNING STAGES RIGHT NOW
If you have said or felt any of the above statements, don’t feel alone. I can admit that these phrases along with other combinations of self-doubt, excuses, and insecurities have danced around in my own head on more than one occasion. We all battle with finding clarity and focus within ourselves when we are searching for direction. Case and point – peep the story below
Ok, so story time:
I wanted to start a blog when I graduated high school. I had an open love affair with fashion and writing experience as a published author and spoken word artist. In my mind, I knew that blogging about my personal style and encouraging others to express themselves was a passion of mine.
That was 2009 !! yeah I know – it took me a while– so why? , you ask was it not until early 2015 that I began to seriously pursue the idea I had 5 years previous? The answer is simple – it is the same answer to why you may feel one or more of the above statements about your future; My MINDSET was in need of shift. I was stuck and scared and the reasons I gave myself for waiting were in reality excuses keeping me from my goals.
I was stuck in a cycle of self-doubt that stalled me taking the first real steps towards my dreams.I was overthinking things in the worst possible way. It took time -and some loving nudges from family and friends – but I started marjanialadin.com in 2014.
So how did was I able to stop doubting and start doing?
I decided to take control of my situation and began to change my mindset . I decided one day that I was tired of JUST wanting it . I wanted to actually HAVE a blog, I wanted to be creating inspirational content and sharing it with others.
Have you ever had those days, where you are just fed up with not being where you want to be? Today may be that day for you and that is why you are reading this.
Well, I was SICK and TIRED of wanting it and I decided to WILL the future I wanted into reality.
I had to change the way I thought if I wanted to be successful. Once I was able to shift my thinking from “I don’t know if this is the right time” to “Today is the day I accomplish one thing for my blog … I can and WILL do this”
Eventually one completed goal turned to two and two turned into a brand and space create to inspire others to live their dream life by utilizing the tools of personal development and a growth mindset.
Our mindset and the way we think has a MAJOR impact on our ability to succeed in all areas of our lives. The manifestation of a single thought can have an effect on the process in which you carry out and even formulate a plan. The ability to understand and fine tune your mindset towards growth and success and away from negativity is a powerful tool for navigating instances of hardship stress or difficulty in your life .
4 WAYS TO SHIFT YOUR MINDSET
1- WATCH YOUR MOUTH – and your thoughts
It is so important to listen to your thoughts and observe how the words you say to yourself, affect your mood and productivity. Speak life and success into you want to achieve something you have to remind yourself that it will take work to do so – that nothing is handed to you but that YOU have the power to do ANYTHING you put your mind to.
Practice This: If you find your self-talk turning negative – respond OUT LOUD with a loving response or affirmation. It may feel silly at first, but trust me it works. This helps when you are facing body issues or just a plain lack of motivation. Don’t be afraid to give yourself a pep talk.
2- PUT GOOD IN
Music has the ability to make a persons mood shift from happy to sad back to angry with the switch of a song. I feel very connected to the songs I listen to and they often evoke an emotion of a feeling that can affect the things I think about at that moment. Make a playlist for yourself that helps align your mindset for the day align with your goals.
I love listening to 90’s gangsta rap when I am in “beast work mode” – (that’s when I am super zoned in on work and I tune the world out ). I like the hustle mentality – the motivation to be and do more than what your doing now that these songs exude.
But if I am having a rough body image day – it’s Beyonce all day because its hard not to feel BOSSY and BEAUTIFUL when your signing Upgrade You and doing your makeup. The way we feel and the things we think are not set i stone, we have the power to change our thinking and mood by exercising self awareness to know WHAT and HOW, and WHY things affect you when they do. .
Music isn’t the only way to get some audio motivation. I am a big believer in utilizing the power of podcasts , webinars, and online learning. There are a wealth of resources at your disposal for inspiration! You all know I love TEDtalks and podcasts on Soundcloud , podcasts from industry experts are easily accessible with the right pair of headphones for on-the-go inspo and enlightenment .

3- BE DISCIPLINED
Sometimes this is the hump we all seem to have trouble getting over, disciple of self. Having self-discipline is the key ingredient to crossing that line that exists wanting to do something and actually doing it. This handy dandy tool is that voice in your head that reminds you of your responsibilities and WHY you are doing things you NEED to do even when you don’t want to do them.
Set a goal and outline a plan to achieve, that goal. Lay out the steps to accomplish that goal and do your best to be consistent in working to reach that goal . For example if you are looking to improve your eating habits, by mindful of what you are eating daily, make consistent healthy food choices to get you closer to your ultimate goal. If you eat a burger a day, you can bet your bottom dollar you wont be hitting that goal until you change your habits.
4- LOVE YO SELF
This one is important- and it can be one that’s easy to forget when you are super zoned in on accomplishing a goal and hitting your target. Don’t fall into the trap of being so focused and driven that you somehow spiral back into negative self-talk.
What do I mean? – Its simple. Be nice to yourself when you speak. If you had five things on you’re to do list for the day but despite your best efforts you could only complete three, its OKAY. Its not the end of the world, you are not the most unproductive person ever. STOP THE NEGATIVITY.
Seriously, pause, breathe, and ask yourself if you did your best that day. If your answer is yes, let yourself be proud of the process and not just the results. The fact that you put your best into that day is something to pat yourself on the back a little bit. That’s all we can do, and releasing the expectation of perfection will allow you to appreciate your daily successes (big and small) more. This line of thinking ultimately produces its own source of motivation to keep going, keep working hard, and doing your best.
